RULES

In each race there are four riders (there are often six riders in a race in Australia). In each race the riders have to complete four laps of the track. The winner gets three points, with the second taking two points, the third takes one point. There are no points for the rider who comes last. Speedway needs a referee who is assisted by a clerk of the course, an announcer, a starting Marshall and a timekeeper.

Riders line up behind the starting gate. The Starting Gate consists of two pillars, between these are suspended white tape. When the referee throws a switch the tapes fly up in the air to signal the start of the race.

Located around the track are six RED lights. The referee turns on the lights if he isn't satisfied with the start of the race or has to stop the race for any reason. There are also two GREEN lights one behind the start line and one in front of the start line. Along with the two GREEN lights there are four more lights, these indicate which colour helmet each rider is wearing..........
